Winston Engineering Case Study 10
Title: Sealing leaking
Findings & Observation:
1. Dismantle of T1510 for positive material inspection. After assemble back for all the 4 pumps and performance test, we have found all 4 pumps are leaking from item 27, "Ring, Manifold Sealing" (cup rubber).
Possible causes on the findings and observations:
1. Tightening Issues (ie. Overtighten will deformed the ring. Undertighten will not seal properly)
2. Incompatible material of the Ring/Manifold Sealing par
Solution and Conclusion:
1. With help from Peter Koh and Winston Lee to our workshop, Winston has highlighted that item 27 "Ring,
manifold Sealing" material was too soft. Need to replace harder type material.
2. We have order harder type material from local source of NBR, core 90 (hardness) and increase 2 mm on
end ring.
3. Since the sealing material is harder and increased 2mm on end ring, the tightening bolts all need to replace
with 1/2" x 2 3/4" (original 1/2" x 2 1/2")
Same of item 27, "Ring, Manifold Sealing" (cup rubber) was deformed after tighten even using torque wrench.
Manifold Elbow to T-Section 40.7 Nm
new item 27, Ring, Manifold Sealing
increase 2mm thickness on end ring
from original
new longer bolts has been replaced
