Winston Engineering Case Study 4
Case Study 4
Title: Positive Displacement Pump Faulty
Findings & Observation:
1. All parts were in good condition upon dismantling pump from the skid.
2. Technician discovered that the plug near air inlet was not unplugged and it needed to be replaced with 1/4" muffler for this model (XPS1530/SSAAA/TWS/TF/STF)
3. Pump only achieved 50% when it was assembled to the skid.
Possible causes on the findings and observations:
1. Spill stop having 3/4" pneumatic actuator valve gas restricted air flow significantly.
2. Pump eventually achieved 100% performance by changing 1" filter regulator.
Solution and Conclusion:
1. Diaphragm pump air inlet and outlet can't be downsized, it has to be one size up for all kind of fittings.
centre block was not unplugged
centre block has been unplugged.
rigid pipe was installed, inflexibility can cause fitting or muffler plate to crack. 3/4" fittings was installed on air discharge
Disconnect the pump air discharge pipe to spill stop
Disconnect the pipe from air outlet
3/4" air inlet regulator was disconnected and replaced by 1"
muffler plate was removed to run a test
Pump is running with 1" flexible hose which bypass the 3/4" fittings
